Stair parts glossary

Not familiar with all the stair parts? Here is an explanation of some terms which may help you:

 A balustrade is the entire railing part of your stairs; you may also refer to it as the banister. It contains:

  • The spindles (also known as balusters),
  • Baserail (supporting bottom of spindles),
  • Handrail (running atop the spindles),
  • Newel posts (supporting the structure at either end).

All of these parts and are designed and manufactured and supplied by Richard Burbidge, making full use of our state of the art production and logistics facility.
