Set amongst the Yorkshire countryside, at East Green Farm in the quaint village of Yapham, The Old Tithe Cottage has been lovingly restored and modernised within this impressive barn conversion by local charity, York Against Cancer.

Previously a derelict farm cottage at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, in a peaceful and tranquil area, The Old Tithe Cottage has been refurbished by the charity, York Against Cancer, for a heart-warming purpose.

York Against Cancer is a Yorkshire-based charity that strives to transform the lives of those affected by cancer, from offering key care and life-changing support to funding ground-breaking research. The charity also offers respite homes for patients being treated by the York & Scarborough Hospital Trust. Day-to-day life can often be disturbed by the strain of regular medical treatment, so a break can be invaluable for families to relax and recharge.

The Old Tithe Cottage is now the second respite holiday cottage that York Against Cancer can offer to patients and their loved ones, with hopes to lessen waiting lists for stays within the area. The completed barn conversation offers a space for those looking for a much needed break away for their daily routine and exhaustive treatment, without fear of being too far away from their base treatment centre.

The fully furnished, one-bedroom cottage is a relaxing and charming space. It features a galleried landing which leads to a mezzanine seating area, with a picture window that overlooks the surrounding countryside. Restored beams maintain the aesthetic of the old farm cottage, whilst cosy interiors modernise the bright and open space.

As part of the refurbishment, local businesses provided donations towards various furnishings, with Richard Burbidge suppyling hemlock stair parts from the Trademark collection, which add to the main focal feature throughout the cottage, forming the relaxing mezzanine area.

Josh Burbidge, Managing Director of Richard Burbidge, comments: “It was an honour for Richard Burbidge to be a part of this team effort in restoring The Old Tithe Barn for a really special cause. With a huge thanks to owners, Hazel and Phil, for reaching out and for creating this wonderful space in collaboration with York Against Cancer.”
