The Top Décor and Interior Design Trends for 2022 (+PDF)

As we enter a new year, there is always the temptation to try something new and there is no exception when it comes to interior design. Transforming our living spaces is a great way to showcase personality within our homes, as well as promote self-expression. Luckily, we’ve predicted the top décor and flooring design trends for the year for anyone who is looking to change up their homes in 2022...

Outside in

‘Outside in’ is a combination of rustic finishes, modern touches, and natural wood furnishings. These materials add a sense of serenity to a room, welcoming a harmonious blend of the rural outdoors and cosy décor. This trend encourages sustainability through the use of handcrafted timber and embracing the imperfections of raw wood.

Textured fabrics and washed tones in shades of blue, grey and cream introduce a bright and calming colour palette. You can achieve this look by incorporating raw woods and soft textures with modernist wall cladding. The added elements of sleek design will create a unique aesthetic and coastal feel to your room – one that allows you to feel like you could breathe in the fresh air. Alternatively, you can utilise the Classic range and its finest white oak to reflect the natural elements of ‘Outside In’ and create a space that celebrates the outdoors.

Zen Living

Characterised by rust tones, greenery and Biophilia, ‘Zen Living’ encourages us to find sanctuary in our homes. Having spent a large amount of time inside over the past two years, the desire to have a happy living space in imperative for our wellbeing. Bright spaces and natural light can encourage us to practice mindfulness and self-care, with added shades of green to help with stress relief. This trend is not only a great way to encourage positivity, but an easy way to introduce more sustainable products into your home. By investing in Richard Burbidge’s quality and environmentally friendly materials, homeowners can incorporate modern designs that are self-sustaining.

The simplicity of tranquil décor when paired amongst natural timber is expected to become particularly popular throughout 2022. This can be achieved using the Trademark range, with a choice of oak, hemlock, pine, or white primed to add simple yet beautiful design to your stairway. Black or white wall cladding also provides a timeless appearance to any room and is easily paired with simple décor such as pampas grass or ceramics.

Maximalism

‘Maximalism’ is a trend that often makes a return due to its hints of nostalgia and tradition. Derived from the art of self-expression, this trend encourages homeowners to get creative and embrace thrifting. From unique décor and antiques to abstract art and retro influences, maximalism is a great opportunity to shop for vintage pieces.

Characterised by bold colours such as true greens, deep blues, muted burgundy, and an orange pop of colour, ‘Maximalism’ is brought to life by its eclectic colour palette that replicates the trends sense of regency and opulence. Incorporating these shades with panelling is a great way to add instant character to your room. Our Heritage range offers timeless details with traditional styles, using crafted white oak and the finest timbers to echo the trends sophisticated characteristics.

Bright Future

Where multi-functionality meets bright and innovative design, ‘Bright Future’ takes advantage of the digital elements within our homes to streamline our spaces and create a retro sci-fi aesthetic. Brightly painted wall cladding paired with zoning adds a geometric feel. Accompanied by bright lights, glass and colour play, this energetic trend withholds a sense of 70’s nostalgia.

Richard Burbidge’s Fusion Domestic range adds a sense of stylish minimalism to any hallway. Either chrome or brushed nickel connectors and glass infills create the feel of a bright, clean space and are a great use of innovative materials. This easy to fit range expands on the seamless characteristics of ‘Bright Future’ and enhances any surrounding colour.
