Archwood Group pledges support to West Midlands Ambulance Services’ Community First Responders

Archwood Group, has pledged to support volunteer network, the West Midlands Ambulance Services’ Community First Responders, to further support employee, Shawn Ellis, who has been a volunteer for over nine years.

To expand its community support initiative and raise funds for a regional cause, Archwood Group has recently selected West Midlands Ambulance Services’ Community First Responders as their nominated charity, with a whole host of fundraising events in the pipeline.

Archwood Group is a family owned, professionally run, leading manufacturer of timber products with two trading brands: Richard Burbidge and Atkinson & Kirby. The business operates all over the UK, with factories in Chirk, North Wales and Scotland, of which both regularly support local and nationwide initiatives by raising funds internally.

West Midlands Ambulance Services’ volunteer network was nominated internally, as Shawn Ellis, a Trainee Area Leader that has worked with Archwood Group since 2007, is part of the Community First Responders team. Shawn has been volunteering for over nine years and is one of seven volunteers who support the service in the local area by responding to a variety of calls.

On average, Community First Responders are able to get to patients quicker than most ambulances and are the first on the scene to provide help and support until the emergency services arrive. This involves attending and providing critical support in a range of circumstances, from advanced first aid for cardiac arrests, breathing difficulties, strokes or heart attacks, as well as offering a calm and reassuring presence during minor injuries.

All Community First Responders are volunteers that support the West Midlands Ambulance Service in their free time, operating in Arden, Solihull, Birmingham, Black Country, Hereford, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. They rely on support from the public and community to be able to buy the relevant equipment, uniforms and keep two responder cars maintained and on the road.

This was the key factor behind Archwood Group selecting its nominated charity, with this community support and lifesaving dedication being not only close to its heart, but so important to its surrounding area.

Shawn comments: “We rely solely on public donations for our two responder cars, uniforms, to keep our training up to date and to ensure we have all the equipment required to carry out our jobs.

“In the whole nine years I’ve been a Community First Responder, Archwood Group is the first business to support our network of volunteers and we are all extremely grateful. We have plenty of fundraising events in the pipeline at our Chirk HQ and I’m glad to be a part of the process to raise money for a cause very close to my heart.”

Archwood Group will be holding several charity events throughout the year to raise money for the charity, including an Easter Treasure Map, Step Challenge and a Christmas Raffle.

Josh Burbidge, Managing Director of Archwood Group, comments: “Community First Responders are a vital part of our local communities when it comes to wellbeing and emergency healthcare situations. We’re glad to be able to support Shawn and his fellow volunteers for their branch at the West Midlands Ambulance Service, with our team planning lots of exciting charity events throughout the course of the year.”
