Wall Mounted Handrail

A wall-mounted stair handrail is fixed directly to the wall with brackets, so it works on enclosed staircases where there is no balustrade, or as a second rail opposite one. Every wall-mounted handrail in our range is shaped for a comfortable grip and sits 35mm to 60mm from the wall, depending on the profile and bracket. [read_more]

Oak is the most popular choice for a wall-mounted handrail. It is hard-wearing, smooth to hold and looks good with a clear varnish or natural oil finish. Our oak wall-mounted handrails come in two classic profiles: the rounded mopstick and the pig's ear, which has a flat back that sits neatly against the wall. Both are available in 4200mm lengths and can be cut to size.

For a lighter look, choose a pine wall-mounted handrail in the mopstick profile. Pine takes stain, varnish or paint well. If you plan to paint, our PaintReady® wooden handrails arrive primed and ready for your top coat, saving a step on site.

The style comes together based on your desired bracket finish. For a traditional or period hallway, pair an oak wall-mounted handrail with antique brass or brass effect brackets. For a modern wall-mounted stair handrail, choose black, gunmetal or brushed nickel brackets with a clean oak or painted rail. Finish each end with matching end caps. Wall Mounted Accessories FAQs

How far should a handrail be from the wall?

A wall mounted handrail should allow enough space to get a comfortable grip.  The distance from the wall to the inside face of the handrail will vary dependant on the handrail profile and bracket type.  Richard Burbidge wall mounted handrail and brackets are between 35mm and 60mm from the wall face.

What is the recommended height for installing a wall-mounted handrail?

As per UK Building Regulations, your wall mounted handrail should be installed at a minimum of 900 above the pitch line of the staircase.

What kind of fittings do I need for a wall mounted handrail?

To attach your handrail, you’ll need a set of brackets one at the top and one at the bottom, (around 200-300mm from each end plus additional brackets with a maximum centres of 900mm).  You can also add end caps to the ends of the handrail itself to add a decorative finish or smooth the edges.

What styles of wall mounted handrail are there?

Handrails and brackets come in a variety of styles to suit any decor - from classic, traditional styles to more contemporary shapes and finishes.  All Richard Burbidge handrail can be wall mounted.
